Dear Friends,

I'm sure you've seen the news by now, that to fund library staff raises--at a lower increase percentage than the jurisdictions are giving their staff--as well as to increase the book budget to reduce the amount of time that you have to wait for library materials, CRRL had no choice but to reduce hours at three branches.

The library is facing underfunding, which has forced hours to be reduced at three branches, including Porter Branch in Stafford County. Starting July 5, Porter Branch will lose three hours every Wednesday. The Stafford Board of Supervisors will be discussing this very topic at tomorrow's meeting.

CRRL has requested an additional $30,500 from Stafford County to avoid losing these hours at Porter. That's it, just $30,500 to cover the staff salaries needed to keep Porter open those three hours every Wednesday for the entire fiscal year! (through June 30, 2024)

Now is our chance to speak up! If you live in Stafford County, reach out to the Board  of Supervisors before the meeting and tell them you want the library doors kept open for all of the branch's hours and that $30,500 is a minimal expense for such an essential public service.

Please copy us at bettertogether@crrlfriends.org. We want to get copies of your messages so we can make sure your voices are heard.

Please share this newsletter with every Stafford resident you know. There's only a short window to speak up before this important meeting.

Thank you for supporting the library!
