Friends of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library

Hello spring, and welcome to one of the busiest months in the library calendar year. April is special because it includes National Library Week - April 7th-13th and National Library Workers Day - April 9th. And for CRRL Friends, April is the beginning of our new annual membership drive.

Membership Drive April 1-30

Our Membership Drive begins TODAY!

Beginning this year, Friends of the Library memberships will begin April 1 and be valid through March 31 of next year. Membership will be extended to April 1, 2020 for any Friends who registered between May 2018 - March 2019.

All members are invited to a sneak preview of the new Friends of the Library Bookshop on Friday, May 3, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 125 Olde Greenwich Drive, Suite 150, Fredericksburg, VA, 22408. You will be able to shop and purchase books at this members only event. Members attending will also receive a coupon for a free book (max value $10) and a gift.

Coming to the sneak preview? Be sure to bring your membership card. Log in to your account at crrlfriends.org to download a PDF to print, or a digital version to store on your smartphone.

Bookshop Progress

During the last week of March, we started working in the new bookshop. With the help of some very dedicated volunteers, we unpacked and sorted over 100 boxes of books. There is still much to do before the May 3rd opening, so if you want to help, contact Candace Schmidt, candace.schmidt@crrl.org. You may also log in to your account at crrlfriends.org to update your volunteering preferences or email us at friends@crrl.org and let us know you are interested.

NEA Big Read: The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien

CRRL is proud to be the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read grant to host a community read of Tim O'Brien's Vietnam War novel The Things They Carried (available for loan in multiple formats). CRRL is one of only 79 NEA Big Read grant recipients nationwide! The NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.

In conjunction with the NEA Big Read, the library is exploring Perspectives on the Vietnam War through events and exhibits, including a visit by author Tim O'Brien on Saturday, April 27.
